Located on the banks of the river Saryu, Ayodhya is one of the oldest settlements in India. It is a revered site for the Hindus mainly because it is the birthplace of the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Ram. The Ram Janmabhoomi is the specific place in Ayodhya where Lord Ram is believed to have been born and spent most of his childhood. However, a mosque was built by Babur on the already existing temple, which was demolished in 1992 followed by nationwide riots. After being a disputed site for decades, the Ramjanmabhoomi Temple is finally under construction. You can also visit the famous Babri Mosque site to see its remains. The temple remains open from 7:00 am- 11:00 am and again from 2:00 pm- 6:00 pm. Visitors are advised to dress modestly inside the temple premises. Footwear is now allowed.
